Theodore Roosevelt 's Secretary of State, John Hay , gave TR this ring , which contains a lock of Abraham Lincoln 's hair , on inauguration day in 1905. John Hay had previously served as Lincoln's private secretary. Abraham Lincoln was one of TR's personal heroes.
