Spoil Heap

The architecture and texture of the central
space in the pavilion is covered by a work
entitled Spoil Heap. The existing floor of
the building is covered by a layer of
handmade terracotta tiles produced in
Limassol, using the earth of an excavation
site removed by archaeologists to reveal
antiquities. Transformed here, this very
earth becomes a stage, a floor, an interior,
and an exterior landscape. Like all of
history’s acts, it is a material that is subject
to constant re-imagination through the
subjectivity of the individuals who unfold
and re-construct its narrative.
