August Jernberg studied at the Academy in Stockholm . Then he spent the years 1847-1854 in Paris, where he spent six months as a student of Couture. 1854 he went to Düsseldorf , where he, with the exception of several trips to France , Holland and Sweden , lived until his death. Predominantly Jernberg painted portraits, genre pictures and still lifes, but he has also done some landscapes.
The painting depicts a group of people in front of Rembrandt 's famous painting "The Night Watch" at Treppenhuis, Holland.
