In 2015, artist Anthea Hamilton was invited by Kettle’s Yard, Cambridge, and The Hepworth Wakefield to work on a collaborative project. For the exhibition – Anthea Hamilton Reimagines Kettle’s Yard (15 September 2016 – 19 March 2017), Hamilton re-displayed some of the Kettle’s Yard’s drawings, paintings, sculptures , furniture and other objects in the Hepworth Wakefield ’s spaces. Included in her installation were a number of her own existing works and new pieces that she made especially for the exhibition that were informed by the Kettle’s Yard House and/or Collection. Here, Hamilton collaborated with artisan glass blowers in France to create this theatrical sculpture. It is included for its suggestion of a functioning object, such as a desk or writing bureau, at which one could write letters.
