Stucco

A light, easily shaped, but hard and durable form of plaster, stucco is used for sculpture and architectural decoration. It is made by burning marble or Roman travertine and combining the lime thus obtained with pulverized marble and other ingredients. It was invented by the ancient Romans, who employed it for the low relief decoration on the walls and vaults of their tombs and palaces.
