National Gallery Mixtape is a collaboration between the National Gallery, London and Google Arts & Culture Lab that explores art and emotion through music. This innovative project showcases a shared commitment to making art accessible and leveraging technology to enhance the audience's experience.
Using Google AI, NG Mixtape invites audiences to discover and create personalized soundtracks using newly digitized paintings from the National Gallery’s collection on Google Arts & Culture. The experiment offers two modes: Scores and Mixer. Users can drag and drop up to six paintings onto the ‘score’ to generate audio based on Gemini’s analysis of them. By adding ‘stickers’ to the paintings, users can influence the audio output to reflect their emotional response or mood. When in mixer mode, you can layer and mix the sounds together using the faders similar to a DJ console.
NG Mixtape uses Gemini, to analyze the image, describes it, and then sends the description to MusicFX DJ to live generate the soundtrack to each.
