Hampton Court Palace is just over 500 years old and was built on a gigantic scale, both to reflect the status and glory of its owners and accommodate a huge number of people when the royal court was in residence.
The rose red brick Tudor palace is indelibly associated with Henry VIII. The Baroque palace, designed by Christopher Wren, was first occupied in 1700. Nowhere else in England does the full range of a Baroque royal palace survive.
60 acres of formal gardens and 750 acres of parkland are set within a loop of the River Thames. See the world's oldest puzzle maze, a record-breaking grape vine, three National Plant Collections and a huge variety of wildlife, including the descendants of Henry VIII's deer herd.
In 1838 Queen Victoria opened the gardens and state apartments of Hampton Court Palace to the public. Today, Hampton Court Palace is a busy workplace and heritage attraction welcoming millions of visitors from Britain and abroad.
Hampton Court Palace is cared for by Historic Royal Palaces, an independent charity. They are a team of people who love and look after six of the most wonderful palaces in the world. Your visits and support give the palaces a future, for everyone.
