Goodyear Arts: Year 1
Founded by Amy Bagwell, Graham Carew, and Amy Herman, Goodyear Arts evolved from the artist-led pilot program Skyline Artists in Residence (July 2015 - January 2016) in an defunct Goodyear Tire Center in Uptown Charlotte donated by Crescent Communities. Here is a look back at our first year of residencies.

July 2015 Artist Residency - Holly Keogh (2015) by Goodyear Arts Goodyear Arts
Visual artist Holly Keogh created 6 original oil paintings and large scale collages in her one month residency.
Todd Stewart - Coley's Wake (2015) by Goodyear Arts Goodyear Arts
This site specific art piece by Todd Stewart is entitled "Coley's Wake". It is named after a former employee of the tire center who signed his name in various places in the building.

The front room of the tire center was converted into a gallery for the artist showcase.

Robert Childers, Matthew Steele, XOXO
Matthew Steele - Lure (2015) by Goodyear Arts Goodyear Arts
Matthew Steele repurposed tire shelves found at the site to create his large scale sculpture "Lure".

Robert Childers created new mixed media pieces - both 2D and 3D.
Many of the artworks created in the first Goodyear Arts location were permanent installations that were meant to disappear forever when the building faced demolition.
XOXO - August 2015 Artist Residency (2015) by Goodyear Arts Goodyear Arts
Experimental theater troupe XOXO occupied the gallery space for their one month residency.Audiences were invited to view the work in an immersive setting.

Triptych Collective brought dance and movement based work throughout the building - in the gallery, the back room, and even the tire racks.
Sarah Ingel and Megan Payne - September 2015 Artist Residency (2015) by Goodyear Arts Goodyear Arts
Dancers Sarah Ingel and Megan Payne, part of Triptych Collective, rehearsing their original piece "in consideration of herself".
Ghost Trees Big Band - September 2015 Artist Residency (2015) by Goodyear Arts Goodyear Arts
Ghost Trees Big Band brought together 11 musicians from across Charlotte and from as far as Mexico City. The collaborative free jazz project was presented at the residency showcase.
Kelly Keith - September 2015 Artist Residency (2015) by Goodyear Arts Goodyear Arts
Kelly Keith used her residency to create a new body of paintings - many of which were created on paneling found within the building.

Leah Cabinum + Foozhan Kashkooli, d'Angelo Dia, Lee Herrera

Leah Cabinum and Foozhan Kashkooli had a collaborative residency. Leah focused on large scale and interactive sculpture and Foozhan created large scale abstract paintings.

d'Angelo Dia created several new visual works and read his original poetry in a dramatic performance in which he knocked a hole in the concrete wall with an axe.

Lee Herrera uses ballpoint pen to create photo realistic drawings.
Goodbye, Goodyear
On January 29, 2016, Goodyear Arts threw a final showcase to celebrate the incredible art created, installed, shown, & performed during our stay at the Tryon Street location. Artists were tasked with transforming the building, inside and out, before final demolition.
