1994: Ensemble Resonanz is founded in Frankfurt by members of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie. The musicians work project-based, rehearse and live in a barracks in Diez during the semester breaks, and tour to concerts from here.

Resonanzen
The ensemble is appointed Resident Ensemble of the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg. It establishes the »Resonanzen« concert series.
The ensemble soon becomes one of the most acclaimed chamber orchestras worldwide due to its intelligent, intertwined programming, high artistic quality and fresh ideas.
»Kaispeicher entern!«
The musicians become the first ensemble to perform in the future Elbphilharmonie in the project »Kaispeicher entern!«.
By now, the ensemble tours all over the world to perform concerts, which receive rapturous applause, in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Mexico, the USA and Europe. The ensemble at the Salzburger Festspiele (image).
»urban string«
In 2011 the musicians initiate the next-generation concert series »urban string« in their rehearsal venue located in Hamburg’s St. Pauli district – experimental concerts in the throes of urban life
»Resonanzen«
In September 2013 the ensemble reinvents its »Resonanzen« series: most notably through the introduction of the anchor activities, which open up new perspectives on each of the programmes in the series for audiences. These take place in various locations across Hamburg, in the form of workshops, the experimental »offbeat« format and more.
The »urban string« series grows from an insiders’ tip to the ensemble’s second mainstay and leads to the search for its own venue, where musicians can rehearse and the series can be presented – a room that combines an urban club atmosphere and good acoustics for chamber music.
resonanzraum
After years of searching, the resonanzraum is constructed in a bunker in the St. Pauli district. Despite constant financial difficulties the ensemble decides to build the venue with the help of many private investors.
The new venue opens in October 2014: now »urban string« takes place once a month and is soon awarded Classical Next’s Innovation Award.

Tabea Zimmermann becomes the ensemble’s Artist in Residence following two fantastic years with Jean-Guihen Queyras.

Tabea Zimmermann will be replaced by Emilio Pomàrico, who – together with the ensemble – will inaugurate the Recital Hall of the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg in his role as the ensemble’s new Artist in Residence in January.

»DieRasenden«
Regularly the musicians participate in crossover projects. The production »Die Rasenden« featuring Karin Beier at the reopening of Hamburg’s Schauspielhaus (image).
Ensemble Resonanz is now ready for the next milestone: the Grand Opening of the Elbphilharmonie.
On 12 January the ensemble inaugurates the Recital Hall by performing a world premiere by Georg Friedrich Haas and uses the new concert hall henceforth as Ensemble in Residence for the »Resonanzen« series, festivals, co-produced concerts for children or other projects. However, the resonanzraum in St. Pauli will remain the ensemble’s home.
