Control how long objects appear in a scene
Each item (text, shape, line, image, GIF, sticker, or video) on a scene’s canvas in Vids has its own object track in the timeline at the bottom of the Vids window. The object track allows you to customize when an item enters and leaves the scene.
Tip:To expand or collapse the timeline view, drag at the top of the timeline.
- On your computer, open a video in Google Vids .
- To view all object tracks in a scene, at the top left of the timeline, click Show timing
.
- Optional: To show timing for selected objects, next to "Show timing," click Timing menu

- To view multiple tracks at once, press Shiftand click on the objects you want to select or drag your cursor across them to multiselect.
- To shorten or lengthen the timing of objects, hover your mouse over the left or right edge of the object track
when the blue handle appears, click and drag to adjust the duration.
- To change when an object appears in the scene, click and drag the object track left or right.
- Tip:This will only work if the object track is shorter than the scene.
- To hide the object tracks, at the top left of the timeline, click Hide timing

Animate objects as they enter & exit
To add visual interest or emphasis, you can animate objects as they enter and exit a scene. Without animation, objects simply appear and disappear according to their timings.
- On your computer, open a video in Google Vids .
- Click a scene

- In the Animation side panel, select an animation.
- Select how you want the animation to show:
- Enter & Exit
- To select different animations for Enter & Exit, at the bottom of the side panel, turn on Separate enter and exit animations.
- Loop
- Enter & Exit
- Select an animation style, such as fade, slide, or rise.
- Customize your animation:
- For some animations you can:
- Change the speed of the animation.
- Under “Duration,” adjust the slider.
- Change the direction of the animation.
- Change the speed of the animation.
- Set text animation preferences:
- Whole:Animates all text
- Paragraph
- Word
- Character

Control audio timing, balance & transitions with audio tracks
Each audio element in a video has its own track below the timeline at the bottom of the screen. The audio track allows you to customize when the audio begins and ends.
Adjust audio timing with audio tracks
You can adjust the start and end point of your audio track, or choose to play a portion of the audio track rather than the entire track.
- On your computer, open a video in Google Vids .
- Under the timeline, select an audio track.
- To control which part of the audio file will play, click and drag the track left or right.
- To adjust the length of the track, hover over the track to find the trim handles, then drag the handles in or out to shorten or extend.
Adjust audio volume & transitions with audio tracks
Control the volume of each audio track and customize the volume of each track when layering audio.
- On your computer, open a video in Google Vids .
- Under the timeline, select an audio track.
- Click Format

- In the side panel, use the slides to customize volume and audio transitions.
- Tip:To ensure your voiceover is audible, for layering audio and speech, lower the volume of background music.

Customize video clip formatting
You can customize the formatting of a video clip playback including timing, volume, transitions, position, and more:
- On your computer, open a video in Google Vids .
- Open a scene in the timeline.
- Click a video clip in your canvas to find options that include:
- Change animation
: Customize the entry and/or exit of a video clip.
- Sound: Adjust the volume and fade of a video clip.
- Playback options: Adjust start and end time and add looping.

Add a photo effect
You can use photo effects to add motion and create dynamic visual effects from static images.
- On your computer, open a video in Google Vids .
- Click a scene

- In the Animation side panel, select a photo effect.
- Customize your photo effect.
- For some effects, you can select:
- Loop duration:The time it takes to complete the effect.
- Direction:The animation's path into or out of the scene.
- Reverse on loop:Change the direction of animation with each loop.
