In Google Vids, you can:

Record narration & video clips

Record yourself (audio narration or full video recording), your computer screen, or your surroundings using the Vids recording studio.

Important:

  • To use a teleprompter in the Vids recording studio, add a script before opening the studio. Learn more about scripts .
  • Vids generative AI features, such as "help me create" and read along teleprompter, are only available in English at this time.
  • You can add up to 50 audio objects (counting individual clips of music, sound effects, or voiceovers) per video. Limits are subject to change.
  1. On your computer, open a video in Google Vids .
  2. From the timeline, click the scene where you want to add the recording.
  3. In the side panel, click Record, then select:
    • Camera: To capture video and audio from your computer’s camera and microphone.
    • Camera and screen: To capture video and audio from your computer’s camera and microphone and your computer screen.
    • Screen: To record your screen with system audio.
    • Voiceover: To capture audio only from your computer’s microphone.
  4. Optional: If you use your camera, you can customize your backgrounds, filters, or appearance style.
    1. At the bottom right, click Apply visual effects.
    2. To add a visual effect, select Backgrounds, Filters, or Appearance.
    3. If you want to add a custom background:
      1. Select Backgrounds.
      2. In the "Blur and personal backgrounds" section, select Add your own personal background.

    Enable graphics acceleration

    To turn on graphics acceleration on Windows or Mac:

    1. At the top right of a Chrome window, click MenuMoreand then Settings.
    2. On the left, click System.
    3. Turn on Use graphic acceleration when available.
    4. Restart Chrome.

    Check WebGL support

    Web Graphics Library (WebGL) enhances web browsers with interactive elements. To apply visual effects, some browsers require WebGL.

    To check if your browser supports WebGL, go to webglreport.com . Then, verify that "Major Performance Caveat" is marked as "No." Your browser might disable WebGL if the device is:

    • Unstable
    • Causes crashes

    You can’t enforce WebGL on unstable WebGL devices. In some cases, it may help to update graphic card drivers or restart your browser. Learn more about WebGL support .

  5. At the bottom of your screen, click Start recording.
  6. To stop or pause the recording, at the bottom of your screen, click Pause recording.
  7. To watch or listen to your recording, click Preview.
    • To add your recording to a video, click Insert.
      • If you want to reuse the recording in a different video, you can copy and paste it into a new video.

To filter sound from your mic that isn’t speech:

  1. At the bottom right, click MenuMoreand then Settings.
  2. Turn Noise cancellationon or off.
    • To use Noise cancellation, you need to open Vids in Chrome.

Tip:If your scene has a video placeholder where you want to add your recording, click Record videoin the placeholder to open the recording studio.

Use a teleprompter in the Vids recording studio

If you select either Cameraor Camera and screenwhen you record a video clip, you can add a script and use a teleprompter.

  1. On your computer, open a video in Google Vids .
  2. From the timeline, click the scene where you want to add the recording.
  3. In the sidebar, click Record.
  4. In the "Record" side panel, in the text box, add a script.
  5. Click Record myself.
  6. Select an option:
    • Camera: Capture video and audio from your computer’s camera and microphone.
    • Camera and screen: Capture video and audio from your computer’s camera, microphone, and screen.
  7. Select your teleprompter mode:

    Read along
    As you read from the script, Vids helps follow your speech to highlight the current portion of your script and scrolls to match your progress.
    Rolling
    The script scrolls at a constant speed.
    • To adjust the speed in which your script shows:Next to Speed, use the slider.
    Manual
    Manually update your place in the script as you read.
    • Scroll the script up or down with your mouse or press the up or down arrows on your keyboard.
    • To adjust text size:Below where the script displays, find the Text size.
      • To adjust text to your preferred size, use the slider.
    • To edit your script:Below the teleprompter, click Edit.
      • In the "Record" side panel, update your script.
  8. When you’re ready, select Start recordingat the bottom of your screen.
  9. When you’re done, select Pause recordingat the bottom of your screen.
  10. To watch your recording, click Preview.
    • To add your recording to your video, click Insert.
      • Tip:If you want to reuse a recording you’ve created in one video in a different video, you can copy and paste your recording into a new video.

Generate an AI voiceover

You can generate a script with AI in Google Vids to use for voiceovers, video clips, and narrated screen recordings. You can also write your own script.

When you record a script, you can create an:

  • Audio or video clip in the Vids recording studio
  • AI-generated voiceover

Important:

  • Generated voiceovers are based on AI models. Options for newly generated voiceovers and voices may change as models are updated.
  • Voiceovers that are already generated for existing videos will not change.

You can generate an AI voiceover for one scene at a time, or for all scenes at once.

  1. On your computer, open Google Vids .
  2. Select a video.
    • Or, you can click Start a new video.
  3. In the sidebar, click Voiceover.
  4. To generate an AI voiceover, at the top:
    • For one scene:Click Current scene.
    • For all scenes:Click All scenes.
  5. In the text box, write your script.
  6. Click Generate the voiceover.
  7. Under "Voiceover," select a voice for your voiceover:
    • Narrator
    • Educator
    • Teacher
    • Persuader
    • Explainer
    • Coach
    • Motivator
  8. Click Selectand then Insert voiceover.
  9. Optional: You can edit your voiceover from the new track.
    1. At the bottom, select a scene.
    2. In the text box, enter your new script.
    3. Click Generate the voiceoverand then Update voiceoverand then Replace.

Tips:

  • You can only generate a voiceover in English. The voiceover supports plain text only, without any emojis or symbols.
  • The scripts you use to generate a voiceover can’t exceed 2,500 characters.

Add music & sound effects

You can add your own audio files to your video—including sound effects, music, and other audio recordings—from your computer or Google Drive. Audio tracks can span multiple scenes, and tracks can play at the same time, such as voice overs and background music. 

You can add up to 25 audio tracks per video.

  1. On your computer, open a video in Google Vids .
  2. On the timeline, move the playhead to the place where you want to add the audio clip.
  3. Add a file:
    • From your computer: In the top menu bar, click Insertand then Upload.
    • In the sidebar, click Uploads and find the file you want to add.
  4. Select the file you want to add. A track for the audio clip is inserted at the playhead location.
  5. Customize your sound and transitions for the clip as needed .

Insert generated images

You can add images generated by Gemini to your videos. 

  1. On your computer, go to Google Vids or Google Slides .
  2. Open a video or presentation.
  3. Click the slide or scene where you want to add the image.
    • In Slides, click Insertand thenHelp me visualizeand thenImage.
    • In Vids, click Insertand thenGenerate an image.
  4. In the right panel, enter a prompt. For example:
    • “A beautiful photograph of a Hawaiian beach at sunset with palm trees in the distance.”
    • “A plate of freshly baked blueberry muffins on a wooden kitchen table next to a large window.”
    • “Watercolor painting of hydrangeas in a water pitcher.”
    • “A futuristic cityscape with skyscrapers and flying cars set at night with HD details and shadows.”
  5. Optional:
    • To customize the image you create, click Add a style.
    • To customize the image ratio, click Aspect Ratioand select:
      • Square:1:1
      • Wide:16:9
      • Tall:9:16
  6. Click Create.
    • To send feedback about the image, click Good suggestionor Bad suggestion.
  7. To preview the image on your slide or in your scene, click the image.
  8. To insert the generated image:
    1. In the right panel, click the image.
      • The image preview opens.
    2. In the preview window, click Insert.

Insert stock images & clips

You can add stock video, images, music, sound effects, stickers, and GIFs to your videos.

  1. On your computer, open a video in Google Vids .
  2. To open the Stock side panel, in the sidebar, click Stock .
  3. In the search box, enter a description of what you’re looking for, or search for a specific media type.
  4. Click an item to add it to the canvas.
    Tip: Stock videos, images, music, sound effects, stickers, and GIFs are inserted at the beginning of the scene. Audio clips are inserted at the location of the playhead (the blue graphic line in the video’s timeline).

Upload media from Drive or Photos

You can upload and insert your own image or video clip into a video from:

  • Google Drive
  • Google Photos
  • The web
  • A file on your computer

  1. On your computer, open a video in Google Vids .
  2. In the timeline, select the scene where you want to upload an image, GIF, or video.
  3. In the sidebar, click Uploads , or click Insertand thenDrive & Photos .
  4. Choose where to get your file from in the Upload side panel:
    • In Drive: Use a file saved to your Google Drive.
    • In Photos: Use an image from your Google Photos library.
    • Tip: You can search your files, or filter by folder or media type.
  5. Click the file to add to the scene canvas.

Add text, lines & shapes

You can add text, including stylized text blocks, as well as lines, shapes, and other objects to your videos.

  1. On your computer, open a video in Google Vids .
  2. Select the scene where you want to add text or an object.
  3. From the sidebar, click Text  or Shapes .
  4. In the side panel, click the object you want to insert, then modify, arrange, or format the object as needed.

Set default styles for scenes & objects

You can set default colors and fonts for newly inserted scene backgrounds, shapes, and text boxes in Google Vids.

  1. On your computer, open Google Vids .
  2. Open the video where you want to set defaults.
  3. On the toolbar, click Customize styles .
  4. At the bottom right of the “Styles” panel, click New objects and scenes.
  5. Set your defaults for scenes and objects:
    • Scenes:Select a background color.
    • Text:Under “Title,” “Subtitle,” or “Body text,” select a font, text size, and color.
    • Shapes:For “Line,” “Fill,” and “Border,” select a color.
