Ad load latency is the total time in seconds that it takes for an ad to load. It starts when the ad is requested and ends when a response is received.
There are two types of ad load latency:
- Ad source latency: The total time it takes an ad request to receive a response from an ad source or ad source instance.
- Mediation group latency: The total time it takes an ad request to pass through the mediation waterfall. To view mediation group latency, only use the mediation group dimension in your report.
The following image shows the difference between the types of ad load latency during an ad request.
Ad load latency includes the time it takes for a third-party SDK or the GMA SDK to load and render an ad. It does not include the time it takes for the AdMob bidding auction to occur or the time between when the ad is rendered and when it’s shown.
Note: Ad load latency does not include ad request timeouts that are greater than 60 seconds. Timeouts greater than 60 seconds are typically due to the user putting the app in the background before the ad is served.
Using dimensions with ad load latency metric
AdMob reports ad load latency differently based on the dimensions you select.
When the ad source or ad source instance dimension is applied
The total time it takes an ad request to receive a response from an ad source or ad source instance.
When onlythe mediation group dimension is applied
The total time it takes an ad request to pass through the mediation waterfall.
Note: If you use the ad source or ad source instance dimensions and the mediation group dimension at the same time, ad load latency is the time it takes to load an ad for a specific ad source/ad source instance.
