If VPN by Google isn't available in your location, you get a notification in the Privacy & security section of the Google Fi app.
Android & Pixel devices
Device and operating system requirementsYou can use VPN by Google on:
- Pixel 7 devices or higher running Android 15 QPR2 or higher
- Pixel 6 devices or lower running Android 13 or higher
- Non-Pixel Android devices running Android 13 or higher

For Pixel devices
- Using your device settings:
- On your device, go to Settings

- Tap Network & internet

- Tap Use VPN.
- If the VPN key iconis in the status bar, the VPN is connected.
- On your device, go to Settings
- Using your Google Fi app:
- On your device, open the Google Fi app.
- Scroll to "Phone settings."
- Tap Privacy & security

- If the VPN key iconis in the status bar, the VPN is connected.

For Other Android devices
- On your device, open the Google Fi app.
- Scroll to "Phone settings."
- Tap Privacy & security.
- Turn Protect your online activityon or off.
- In the pop-up, tap Got it
OK.
- If the VPN key iconis in the status bar, the VPN is connected.
Turning on another VPN automatically turns off VPN by Google. If two VPNs try to use the same connection at the same time, you may experience connectivity issues.
To turn off the other VPN:
- Go to Settings
.
- Tap Network & internet
VPN.
- Tap the active VPN name.
If you use Pixel 7 or later with Android 15 QPR 2 or higher, you might find two "VPN by Google" profiles. Manually forget the duplicate profile found under "Others."
To manage duplicate VPN profiles:
- Go to Settings
.
- Tap Forget VPN.
Tip: You can’t manually remove the "VPN by Google" profile under "Built-in."
Fix app issues with VPN
If your device cannot perform these functions while the VPN by Google is on, try to restart the VPN:
- Send calls, texts, or emails
- Access Wi-Fi
- Run apps correctly
To restart the VPN:
- Turn off the VPN.
- Repeat steps to turn on the VPN.
- Check if the issue is fixed.
- If the issue persists, contact Google Fi support .
Tip:With or without a VPN, an app can track what you do on that app. Make sure you trust an app before you download it.
