How to upgrade URLs with cross-domain redirects

Add a Final URL suffix

In Google Ads, the "final URL suffix" field allows you to enter parameters that will be attached to the end of your landing page URL so you can track information about where people go after they click your ad. A final URL suffix can be applied at the account, campaign, ad, ad group, dynamic ads target, and keyword levels.

This article provides instructions for adding a final URL suffix at these different levels.

How to use the final URL suffix

Add a final URL suffix at the account level

  1. Go to  Account settings within the Admin menu Admin Icon.
  2. Select “Tracking Template”.
  3. Enter parameters in the “Final URL suffix” field.
  4. Select  Save.

Add a final URL suffix at the campaign level

  1. Go to Campaigns within the Campaignsmenu Campaigns Icon.
  2. Select the Settingstab.
  3. Select the pencil iconEditwhen it appears in the “Tracking template” column.
  4. Enter the parameters in the “Final URL suffix” field.
  5. Select  Save.

Add a final URL suffix at the ad level

  1. Go to Ads within the Campaigns menu Campaigns Icon.
  2. Hover over any of the ads and select the pencil iconEditwhen it appears.
  3. Select  Edit.
  4. Expand Ad URL options(advanced).
  5. Enter parameters in the “Final URL suffix” field.

Add a final URL suffix at the ad group, dynamic ads target or keyword level

  1. In your Google Ads account, select the CampaignsiconCampaigns Icon.
  2. Select the Ad groups page under the "Campaigns" drop down, or the Dynamic ad targets , or Keywords tab under the "Audiences, keywords, and content" drop down.
  3. Select the pencil iconEditwhen it appears in the “Tracking template” column.
  4. Enter parameters in the “Final URL suffix” field.
  5. Select  Save.
Note: In the AdGroups table view, select  Modify Columnsand add the "Tracking Template" and "Final URL" columns. Then, for the ad group you want to modify, select the pencil iconEditin those newly added columns.

Add a final URL suffix at the sitelink level

  1. Go to Assets within the CampaignsmenuCampaigns Icon.
  2. Select Sitelinksummary card header for the type of asset.
  3. Hover over any of the assets and select the pencil iconEditwhen it appears.
  4. Expand Sitelink URL Options(advanced).
  5. Enter the parameters in the “Final URL suffix” field.
  6. Select  Save.

Example

Display URL:example.com
Tracking template:tracker.com/redirect={lpurl}
Final URL suffix:x=y
What happens:

  • With parallel tracking: when someone clicks on your ad, they will be directed to https://example.com/?x=y while the tracking is processed in background. Learn more About parallel tracking .
  • With traditional sequential tracking: When someone clicks on this ad, they will first be directed to tracker.com/redirect={lpurl} before landing on https://example.com/?x=y.
