Disable learning for the temperature schedule

Nest thermostats can learn your daily routine and automatically create a temperature schedule for you. If you prefer to disable learning and have your thermostat follow a fixed temperature schedule, you can turn off your thermostat’s learning features. The schedule won't change unless you make manual changes to it.

Different Nest thermostat models give you different options for setting up a temperature schedule that meets your needs:

  • Smart Schedule (Nest Learning Thermostat 4th gen only)
  • Auto Schedule (Nest Thermostat E and Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd gen or earlier only)
  • Basic Schedule (Nest Thermostat E only)
  • Quick schedule (Nest Thermostat only)

Early-On is designed to have your home reach the target temperature at the scheduled time. If you want your system to start at the scheduled time (not before), disable Early-On. Your home won’t reach the target temperature until after the scheduled time.

  • Automatic switching with presence sensing:If you enable presence-based automations or Home/Away Assist, your thermostat might still automatically switch to its Eco Temperatures. This happens when it senses everybody has left home. If you don’t want this feature for your thermostat, disable Eco Temperature auto switching .
  • No temperature schedule:If you clear a schedule and don’t set up a new one, your thermostat will stay at the last set temperature. This means it’ll work like a traditional, non-programmable thermostat or like “hold” mode on a programmable thermostat.
  • Start learning again:You can always turn learning back on. Your thermostat starts learning your temperature preferences again and makes adjustments to the schedule automatically. Your Nest thermostat will use any temperatures that are in your schedule as a starting point to start learning again.
