What happens when you send feedback

When you share thumbs up or thumbs down feedback, we’ll collect the associated content – like your prompts, customizations, sources, uploads, and the outputs received (e.g., chats, audio overviews, video overviews, reports, mind maps, source discovery, etc.) – so we can understand the issue. This data is handled in line with our Google Privacy Policy  and is used to help us improve the product for everyone.

How Google uses your feedback

Your thumbs up or down feedback, any included content (e.g., your queries, uploads, model responses, generated outputs like video overviews, audio overviews, chats, source discovery, etc.), and related data are:

  • Reviewed by specially trained teams. Human review is necessary to help identify, address, and report potential problems raised in feedback. In some cases, this is required by law. We take steps to protect your privacy as part of this process. This includes disconnecting your feedback from your Google Account before reviewers see or annotate them.  Please help us by not including any confidential or sensitive information in your feedback.
  • Used consistent with the Google Privacy Policy. Google uses this data to provide, improve, and develop Google products, services, and machine-learning technologies.  This is explained in more detail in our Privacy Policy
    • For example, we use this data to make NotebookLM safer. It helps us detect and avoid unsafe requests or responses in the future.
  • Retained for up to 3 years. Reviewed feedback, included content, and related data are retained for up to 3 years, disconnected from your Google Account.
  • Google Workspace or Google Workspace for Education users. Your uploads, queries and the model's responses in NotebookLM will not be reviewed by human reviewers even when you provide thumbs up or down feedback, and will not be used to train AI models.
