In some cases, you can call people over a Wi-Fi connection instead of a mobile carrier. Not all carriers support calls over Wi-Fi.
Before you can make calls over Wi-Fi, you'll need to turn on the feature in your settings.

Fix Wi-Fi calling issues
If your phone detects Wi-Fi calling issues, it turns off Wi-Fi calling until the problem is fixed. If the issue remains, you’ll receive a notification that says Wi-Fi calling has been turned off entirely. You may need to restart your device or contact your carrier to re-activate Wi-Fi calling.
Place a call using Wi-Fi
Once you’ve set up Wi-Fi calling, you can make a call over Wi-Fi just like any other call. When you’re connected to the internet, you’ll see "Internet Call" or "Wi-Fi calling" on the notification screen.
When you're not connected to Wi-Fi, your calls will use your mobile carrier, if you have one.
