When creating a template, you’ll find a "Create in paused state" option in the Status settings. If you select this option:
- New items are created with a "Paused" status.
- These new items have a template management status of "Unmanaged". This means the template will not actively manage these entities until their status is changed.
To activate these entities later and enable template management, you need to change their template management status to “Managed.” After you change the status, the template system automatically sets them to "Active" as soon as the associated feed item becomes available and the template is evaluated.
The "Create in paused state" option serves 2 main purposes:
- It prevents the template system from automatically activating or editing entities after the template is evaluated.
- It allows you to prepare ads and obtain policy approvals in advance, without the ads going live immediately.
With this feature you can control the timing of your ad activation, ensuring ads are fully ready before being displayed.
When you create entities using the “Create in paused state” option, you can update the generated entities and activate them later by:
- Locating them: You can locate generated entities by filtering for “Template name” while viewing the corresponding entity type (for example, campaigns, ad groups, responsive search ads, keywords, among others).
- Changing template management status: Use a rule , bulk upload , or bulk edit to set the “Template management status" to “Managed.” You can also change this status directly in the entity's row by clicking the status cell and selecting “Managed.”
When the status is set to “Managed,” the template system will activate the entity when 2 conditions are met:
- The feed item referenced in the multiplier becomes available.
- The template is evaluated.
Create pause conditions for campaigns, ad groups, ads, and keywords
If you'd like to pause your ads, ad groups, or keywords, you can do so automatically when certain conditions are met in your feed. This option, called "Pause campaign/ad group/keywords/ads when a condition is met," is found in the "Status" section of the "Template settings" step when you create a new template.
Search Ads 360 resumes the campaigns, ad groups, keywords, or ads when an update to your feed data no longer matches the conditions you specify.
