Keep in mind:
- Manual claiming is only available to partners who have demonstrated a need for the feature and an advanced working knowledge of copyright and Content ID .
- Users of the Manual Claiming Tool must follow the requirements for its use, as outlined in the Content ID manual claiming policy .
- If content isn't eligible for Content ID , it should not be manually claimed. Improperly claiming content can result in penalties including legal liability and termination of partnership. Learn more .
When you search for videos that match your assets, we’ll try to match your search terms to video titles, descriptions, tags, and other metadata.
To search for public YouTube videos that match your assets using the Manual Claiming Tool:
- Sign in to Studio Content Manager .
- From the left menu, select Manual claiming
.
- In the filter bar, enter keywords, video IDs, or select a filter.
- Use the minus symbol "-" to exclude keywords from your search.
- You can also search by @username or channel ID to find videos from a particular uploader.
- You can select from these filters:
- Allowlisted (whether the video is/isn’t on your allowlist )
- Channel ID
- Claim status (whether it is/isn’t claim by you or others)
- Claimable (whether you can claim a video or not)
- Livestream (whether the video is/isn’t a livestream)
- Publish date
- Reviewed (whether the claim has been reviewed)
- Video length (<4 minutes, 4–20 minutes, or >20 minutes)

Once you’ve selected your filter, click APPLYto filter the search results.
- Click Sort byin the top-right to sort the results based on Relevance, Published date, or Total views. Note: At the bottom of the page, you can click the number next to Rows per pageto change it from 30 (default) to 10, 50, or 100.
- For videos that have an active claim, the claims show at the right. You can click a row to expand it and get more info.
- Click the play buttonin the video player to view the video.
- Note: You must watch the video to confirm whether it includes content that you own.
- Click VIEW CLAIMED VIDEOto view the video and get more details on the claims.
- On the right, next to “Show more:”, click From channelto find other videos from that channel or Related videosto find similar videos based on the video’s title.
- Click the play buttonin the video player to view the video.
To claim a video using the Manual Claiming Tool:
- On the Manual claiming
page, click a video’s row to expand it and get more info about the video.
- Click SELECT ASSET. A pop-up window will open.
- From the tabs at the top, choose Select assetto claim with an existing asset
- You can also choose Create assetto make a new one. Learn how to create an asset using the Manual Claiming Tool .
- Select an asset from the list
SELECT.
- Enter the required timestamps under Start timeand End timefor where your content appears in the video.
- Under the video player, you can click SET START TIMEand SET END TIMEto automatically populate the start time and end time.
- Check that you have the right segment by clicking the play buttonnext to End time.
- If your content appears in more than one part of the video, click ADD ADDITIONAL SEGMENT.
- If you want to remove this segment, click Delete segment
.
As with match claims, uploaders can remove the manual timestamps with video editing tools to remove the claim . Because of this, timestamp segments must accurately representwhere your content appears in the video.
- If you want to remove this segment, click Delete segment
- Click Claim typeand select whether the video matches the Audio, Video, or Audio Visualcontent of your asset.
- Click Policyand select whether the default option, Match policy of selected asset,applies to the video or choose a different policy from the list of policies.
- Click CLAIMor, to finish the claim later, click MARK AS REVIEWED.
To create an asset while manually claiming a video:
- On the Manual claiming
page, click a video’s row to expand it.
- Click SELECT ASSET. A pop-up window will open.
- From the tabs at the top, choose Create asset.
- Click CREATE.
- Select Asset type and fill in the asset metadata. Learn more about asset types .
- Select Ownership. Learn more about asset ownership .
- (Optional) In the Asset labelsbox, apply existing asset labels or create new ones. Learn more about asset labels .
- Click CREATE.
- Proceed with Steps 5-8 in the above section, Claim a video that uses your content
.
- Note: New assets won't be fully created until you proceed through Steps 5-8 above and click CLAIM.
Submit a removal request
To submit a removal request for one video:
- On the Manual claiming
page, click a video's row to expand it.
- Click the Takedowntab at the top of the row.
- Click Select asset.
- Using the tabs at the top, you can choose Select assetto choose an existing asset or Create assetto make a new one. Learn how to create assets .
- If you're selecting an existing asset, click Select. If you’re creating a new asset, click Create.
- If the video has more than one audio track and you are using an audio asset, you need to indicate which track infringes copyrights in the Infringing audio trackdrop down. Learn more here .
- In the Signaturebox, enter your first name and last name (not a company name).
- Under Acknowledgment,read the statement, then click the checkbox to acknowledge the statement.
- Click Takedown video.
Submit multiple removal requests
You may be able to submit copyright removal requests in bulk. To request removals of more than one video associated with a single asset:
- On the Manual claiming
page, click the checkboxes next to the videos you want to submit a removal request for.
- You can select a maximum of 100 videos at once. To do this, at the bottom of the page, make sure Rows per page is set to 100, then click the checkbox above the search results.
- At the top of the page, click Select asset.
- Using the tabs at the top, you can choose Select assetto choose an existing asset or Create assetto make a new one. Learn how to create assets .
- If you're selecting an existing asset, click Select. If you’re creating a new asset, click Create.
- If you are using an audio asset, you will need to indicate which track infringes copyrights in the Infringing audio trackdrop down for each video with more than one audio track.
- Click Takedownat the top of the page.
- Under Acknowledgment,read the statement, then click the checkbox to acknowledge the statement.
- In the Signaturebox, enter your first name and last name (not a company name).
- Click Submit.
If a removal request has been resolved and resulted in removal of content, it can be retracted. If a removal request has not been resolved yet (for example, delayed takedowns and takedowns under review), it can be cancelled.
To retract or cancel a copyright removal request that was submitted using the Manual Claiming Tool:
- Sign in to Studio Content Manager .
- From the left menu, select Claimed Videos
.
- Find the video from your original removal request.
- To find the video faster, click the filter bar
Claim status
Takedown, Delayed Takedown, or Takedown under review.
- To find the video faster, click the filter bar
- Click the video’s title.
- In the Claims on videosection, next to Takedown, Delayed Takedown, or Takedown under review, click DETAILS.
- For takedowns that have not been resolved yet (delayed takedowns and takedowns under review), click CANCEL 1 TAKEDOWN. For resolved takedowns, click RETRACT 1 TAKEDOWN.
