Beni-making tools: ubai (1935)

Ubai is unripe Japanese apricot that is smoked in ash made from straw and dried. It was used as the raw material for the acid solution needed to make beni. This shows ubai that were bought from the shop of Sakutaro Hino in Osaka , and the envelope used when they were mailed.
