Con

Eileen Monaghan Whitaker, 16.8 x 10.5 in. Watercolor. 1953

The Frederic Whitaker and Eileen Monaghan Whitaker Foundation
Syracuse, NY, United States

Eileen’s portrayal of her sister, Constance (Connie or Con), on a beach outing in New England.
Eileen had three older sisters: Mary, Kathy, and Connie (Con); one younger sister, Franny, and a younger brother, Kevin. Con was the fun-loving one, according to Eileen. By career, a nurse, Con could also paint. “Con was terrific from the very beginning,” Eileen said. “She had her own style, but she never took herself seriously.” Con moved with the Whitakers to California in 1965 and lived in downtown San Diego until her death in 1985. Many of her paintings are in the collection of the Frederic Whitaker and Eileen Monaghan Whitaker Foundation.
