In 1765, A group of British naval craftsmen from Fort Niagara worked to develop barracks on the opposite side of the Niagara River. Eventually, several buildings were constructed and they were collectively known as Navy Hall. It was used as a key military supply facility for British forts on the Upper Great Lakes.

The original Navy Hall complex was destroyed by American forces during the War of 1812. After the war, the British reconstructed some of the buildings, of which one still survives.
