The Head 1

Zdzisław Beksiński 21th Century

East of Art Foundation
Krakow, Poland

The contemporary bronze cast of Zdzislaw Beksinski 's works were created in 2021 under the substantive and technical supervision of the Historical Museum in Sanok in a limited edition of 8 pieces plus 4 author's copies, and are original, strictly controlled, limited and numbered works of the artist being a faithful reproduction of the works in the in the collection and permanent exhibition of the Zdzislaw Beksinski Gallery at the Historical Museum in Sanok.
There were relatively few sculptural realizations in Zdzislaw Beksinski's oeuvre, compared to his rich output of paintings or drawings. The artist constantly stressed that this was not due to a lack of interest in this type of art (on the contrary), but was always the result of spatial limitations and the lack of suitable conditions for it. In the collection of the Sanok Museum, in addition to the large-size sculpture, "Hamlet", there is an interesting series of heads made of patinated plaster, somewhat resembling their irregular shape with numerous holes punched in their skulls. The artist, diversifying the smooth surface of the matter, used in these works a negative form taken from the inspiration of Henry Moore 's works. This is a sculpture that enters into a dialogue with space, fills it, while at the same time absorbing into itself.
