To understand the architectural work created by the poet Edward James in the town of Xilitla, Mexico, it is necessary to open the doors of the unconscious.

In it, he could see all kinds of plants and animals grouped according to their species and family, revolving around the light.

James rejected the idea of ​​being an intellectual. He claimed to have been born a surrealist, since from a very young age he decided to inhabit the world governed by the rules of his unconscious, and he asserted that creativity is linked to the impulses of the soul.

The structures that make up the work named Garden of Eden, built between 1960 and 1980, reflect the poet's vast imagination as well as the talent and skill of the team in charge of its construction.

The garden is filled with mystical symbolism such as the fleur-de-lis, the eye of Horus, the five-pointed star, Gothic windows, and doors that divide the space and separate one reality from another.

In the world of the collective unconscious, the boundaries between the logical and the illogical dissolve. On this plane, the real and the symbolic overlap, temporalities disappear, and they coexist in a transversal way.

Walking through the Garden of Eden, amidst the natural beauty of the mountains, the concrete structures, and the birdsong, is like walking through the macrocosm and the microcosm. It's a testament to the truth that as above, so below.
