Dark Mode is much appreciated, but unaddressed white-outs are major hindrances

Dark mode is used not only for night reading convenience but also (for some with eyesight issues, as in my case) to make reading possible without eye strain and/or further eyesight damage. Therefore the remaining white-out issues are literally major assaults on the eyes and brain. Here are two examples. There may be more.

1. Navigation Banner: (Already mentioned in Nov 12, 2023, report) Scrolling down results in white-on-white navigation banner staying at top of screen. This is not just a readability problem (hovering makes labels viewable) -- a constant, large bright-white banner is a painful as well as unwelcome distraction. My work-around is a folded dish towel draped over that area.

2. Footnote Pop-up Window by click/tap on footnote superscript letter: The issue has two parts: fallback to full page window display of footnote text; and full page window is bright-white with dark text (compared to the default smaller pop-up window that has dark mode colors).
a. Fallback to full page window display of footnote text with upper-right X to close: Generally, the fallback to full page overlaid window (instead of the default selection list) seems to be triggered earlier than necessary (e.g., Bible Version, Bible Book List, while there is still adequate window real estate for a pop-up). In the case of displaying a footnote, the full page window seems to be triggered WAY too early, with the result that two-or-three word footnotes are displayed in a full page window. (... in which case the work-around dish towel must be lifted in order to read the footnote)
b. When the full page footnote window is triggered, the background of bright white (unlike, e.g., Bible Version, Bible Book List, which has appropriate dark mode colors). This sudden dark mode-to-full-page-bright-white is nothing short of painful for those of us that have sensitive eye issues. My work-around is to avoid clicking the footnote letter and instead scroll down to the bottom of the page. But then I have to find my place in the text again. And sometimes I forget and click the letter.

Regarding how long it might take to fix there issues, I'm discouraged that the nav banner issue was reported in 2023. Hopefully I've supplied enough detail and reasons to enable these dark mode extension issues to be addressed promptly, so that its usefulness is fully realized and more people can benefit from it.

Nav banner in half-width / tablet mode remains white

When viewing Bible Gateway in a sufficiently narrow window (e.g. on a tablet or vertical monitor), the nav bar on the side moves to the top of the screen. Your change to the text color still applies, but the background is white, so the nav bar consists of white text on a white background. The background of the nav bar should be changed to grey to match the nav bar in full-width mode.

Can I get Bible Gateway in a light mode rather than dark?

Highlighted Text Should Be Black

Highlighting verses makes the text difficult to read. My suggestion is to change the text color to black if it is highlighted, to make it easier to read.
