AutoML Translation pricing

AutoML Translation enables you to create your own custom translation models so that translation queries return results specific to your domain. Prices for usage of AutoML Translation are computed based on the amount of training required (in hours) and how many characters you send for translation.

Training costs

Model training is charged by the hour. The time required to train your model depends on the size and complexity of your training data. If training fails for any reason other than a user-initiated cancelation , you will not be billed for the time. You will be charged if you cancel the operation.

Translation costs

Your usage of AutoML Translation is calculated in terms of how many characters you send for translation with an AutoML custom model whether you send the request via Cloud Translation API v3 or the AutoML API.

As you increase the volume you translate each month, your price will adjust for the next Tier of additional translations. Translation usage is calculated in millions of characters, where 1 million = 10 ⁶ characters.

Already billed characters will not be retroactively adjusted to the price of the next tier. In other words, your first 250m characters for the month will be billed at $80, and only characters above 250M will be billed at $60.

Model Evaluation: AutoML Translation supports Model Evaluation with a new test set to compare across additional models. The feature includes, by default, the ability to export sample translations from each model in the evaluation, including Google NMT. If sample export is selected, the translation samples are charged at the same rate as any other translation request sent through the API. AutoML prices apply to AutoML Models as covered in the table below, and Google NMT prices apply to the NMT model. If samples are not exported there is no charge for model evaluation.

If you pay in a currency other than USD, the prices listed in your currency on Cloud Platform SKUs apply.

Price is per character sent for processing, including whitespace characters and tags (such as HTML tags). Empty queries are charged for one character. Google charges on a per character basis, even if the character is multiple bytes, where a character corresponds to a ( code-point ). For example, translating "こんにちは" to English counts as 5 characters for the purposes of billing.

$40 of free usage per month is applied to AutoML Model Translation Predictions Operations per billed account, which is equivalent to 500k characters per month.

Google Cloud costs

If you store documents to be analyzed in Google Cloud Storage, or use other Google Cloud resources in tandem with the AutoML Translation, such as Google App Engine instances, then you will also be billed for the use of those services.
