Turn on or off new services by default

As an admin, when Google adds a new service in your Google Admin console, you can have the service automatically turned on for all your users. Or you can have new services initially turned off, then decide when to turn them on for your users.

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console .

Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. In the Admin console, go to Menu   Account Account settings Preferences .
  3. In the Release preferencessection, click  New products.
  4. Select an option:
    • Turned on when released—All users can immediately access new products and services.
Note: After the service is on, you can turn it on or off for an organizational unit or group of users at any time with the Service statussetting.
    • Turned off when released—Users can use new products and services only if you turn them on .
  5. At the bottom, click Save.

Changes can take up to 24 hours but typically happen more quickly.  Learn more

Starting June 6, 2024, when a Google Early Access app becomes an Additional Google service, your Google Workspace account Release preferencessetting for new products (described in Step 3) determines whether the Additional service is automatically enabled or disabled by default. Note: Currently, Google Workspace Essentials editions don’t include all core Google Workspace services, and aren’t guaranteed to support future new services. Learn more about Google Workspace Essentials editions .
