We're excited to announce that we're making improvements to the ad load setting for Auto ads banner ads. To give you more control over the banner ads on your site, we're replacing the ad load slider with more granular settings. This change will provide you with greater precision over the number of banner ads and their placement on your pages.
This article explains the changes we're making and how they affect your current ads settings.
What's changing
- We're removing the ad load slider in Auto ads.
- We're renaming the "fine-tune your ads" controls to the "advanced settings" for banner ads.
- The "advanced settings" for banner ads will provide these same options:
- Maximum number of ads: lets you decide the maximum number of in-page ads to show on your pages.
- Minimum distance between ads: lets you choose how much space you want in-between your in-page ads.
- Find more ad placements on article pages: lets you choose if you want Auto ads to identify more potential placements for in-page ads on your article pages.
What you need to know
- If you're currently using ad load: We'll automatically migrate your ad load setting to the new "advanced settings" for banner ads. We’ll use your current ad load to approximate the number of ads and the distance between them. However, since this is an approximation, there may be some discrepancies. You're encouraged to review the new values to ensure they meet your needs.
- If you're currently using "fine-tune your ads": We'll apply your existing "fine-tune your ads" settings to the new "advanced settings" for banner ads.
- If you don't have banner ads turned on: You don't need to take any action.
Timeline
- We're launching these changes on April 16, 2026.
- Until the launch you can still use the ad load setting.
- After the launch, the ad load setting will be removed, and your existing settings will be applied to new "advanced settings" for banner ads.
