Choose which services remember you

When you use a service other than Google with your Assistant, a unique ID code is sent to the service so it can remember your actions and preferences during conversations.

  • If you do not want a service to remember your past actions and preferences, reset your ID.
  • If you do not want a service to remember your past or future actions and preferences, stop the service from remembering you.

    Important:If you don't find "Reset," you can  manage your app data in My Activity .

    Google Assistant on a phone or tablet

    1. On your Android phone or tablet, say "Hey Google, open Assistant settings."
    2. Under "All settings," tap Explore.
    3. To the left of a service, tap its icon.
    4. At the bottom, tap Reset.

    1. On your Pixel 4, go to  Assistant settings .
      • You can also say "Hey Google, open Assistant settings" then tap See all Assistant settings.
    2. Under "All settings," tap Explore.
    3. To the left of a service, tap its icon.
    4. At the bottom, tap Reset.

    1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Home app .
    2. Tap Browse.
    3. To the left of a service, tap its icon.
    4. At the bottom, tap Reset app.

    • If you have an account linked to the service, it's signed out and unlinked.
    • The service forgets you, so you look like someone new the next time you use the service.
    • Your preferences and current state with the service are reset.
    • If you share a Google Assistant device with others, they won’t know you used the service.

    What doesn’t happen

    • Resetting your ID doesn't prevent the service from remembering you when you’re signed in to your account with that service on the Google Assistant.
    • Your past activity with a service isn't deleted from your Google Account. Learn how to delete activity saved in your Google Account .
    • Your past activity, including purchases, isn't deleted from the service’s app.

      Google Assistant on a phone or tablet

      1. On your Android phone or tablet, say "Hey Google, open Assistant settings."
      2. Under "All settings," tap Explore.
      3. To the left of a service, tap its icon.
      4. Near the top, tap Unlink.

      1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Home app .
      2. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial Assistant settings.
      3. Tap the service you want to update, like Music, Videos & Photos, and Radio.
      4. Below the service provider, tap Unlink.

      Tip: To unlink a music service that’s currently your default, first select a new default service or No default.
