RCS is now available for texting between Android and iPhones. Learn how to turn on RCS chats on your Android phone ( link ).

Update a sent message

You can edit a Rich Communication Services (RCS), SMS, or MMS message after you send it. This feature works:

  • RCS
  • One-on-one conversation with iPhone users who also have RCS chats turned on
  • Group RCS chats even if other participants don't have editing capabilities

Editing is enabled in the app only, not on the web UI.

The ability to edit a sent message expires after 15 minutes, regardless whether the recipient has read the message or responded to it.

An "Edited" label appears above the message in the conversation for both the sender and recipient.

Edit a sent message

  1. On your device, open Google Messages.
  2. Touch and hold a sent message in a conversation.
  3. At the top of the screen, tap EditEdit.
    • If you touch and hold a message after 15 minutes, the EditEditwon’t be available.
  4. Edit the message.
  5. To update the sent message, tap CheckCheck.
    • To exit the editing view, next to “Edit message,” tap ExitTap.

If a recipient doesn't support the edit feature, they’ll receive a new message marked with a `*`.
