If you recently tried to add or change your account's primary or backup payment method, you might have received one of these messages:
- “This payment method can't be used for recurring payments.”
- “This action couldn't be completed. Try again with a different payment method.”
These messages mean the payment method change was denied.
Why this happened
To help prevent fraud, we regularly review changes to Google accounts. If a change appears risky, it isn’t made and you can’t use that payment method for your Google service.
What you can do
If you tried to make this payment method change
Change the payment method for your billing account to a different payment method available to you.
- For more information on Google Ads, go to Add a new payment method in Google Ads .
- For more information on Google Cloud, go to Add, remove, or update a payment method . For additional help, contact Cloud Billing Support .
If you didn’t make this payment method change
If you noticed a payment method change you didn't make, check your Google payments account for unauthorized updates. Also, you may want to change your password or take other steps to secure your account .
