A QR code is a square-shaped barcode that can quickly open a website, show you a restaurant menu, or even connect you to a Wi-Fi network. To scan QR codes with your Pixel phone, refer to these steps.
Use your Camera app
The easiest way to scan a QR code is with the Camera app.
- On your Pixel phone, open the Camera app.
- To make sure that your Camera app can scan QR codes:
- Tap Settings More settings

- Make sure that “Camera scan suggestions” is turned on.
- Tap Settings More settings
- Point your camera at the QR code.
- Make sure the entire code shows on your screen.
- You don't need to take a picture.
- Wait for a moment. Your camera automatically recognizes the code and shows a bubble or link on the screen.
- To open it, tap the link that appears.
Tip:You can also use Google Lens to scan QR codes.
Use the Quick Settings button
You can also scan a QR code from your phone's Quick Settings menu.
- To open Quick Settings, swipe down from the top of your screen.
- Tap Scan QR code.
- If you don't see it, you may need to swipe left to find more buttons or tap the pencil icon to add it.
- A special scanner opens.
- To scan the QR code, point the scanner towards it.
Troubleshoot issues with your scan
If you can’t scan the QR code:
- Hold steady:Make sure your hand is steady so the camera can focus and the code isn't blurry.
- Get good lighting:Scan the code in a well-lit area. Avoid shadows or glare on the code.
- Clean the lens:If your camera lens is smudged, wipe it with a soft cloth.
- Get closer:Move your phone closer to the code but make sure the entire square still shows clearly on the screen.
