The best thermostat for Airbnb, the WiFi access and app are perfect!

This is the bset thermostat for an Airbnb where Wifi control is required, the app is easy to use, thermostat works perfect and fairly easy for guests to use I have never found one better. This checks all the boxes and has been working perfect for me for over a year now.

This works really well. I am happy. I have to say, turning it on and off and changing heating, to cooling etc., is a little odd.. not very easy, I had to have the family gather around for a tutorial. The online app works well and it syncs with my Amazon ECHO/Alexa very well.. no issues. If you don't use the app for a while you will be logged out, which is a bit annoying.

I think it keeps the temperature stable within the house and I am expecting some savings from my cooling costs this year. I will provide an update later.

Overall, works well. one start reduced due to the confusion on how to turn the system on, off and change the cooling to heating mode. Could be way easier.

******Update 9 Months: The thermostat is great. No issues. Seems very reliable and stays connected to the internet. It sends the signal to the furnace and air conditioning unit quickly. Unsure if I experienced an energy savings this past summer, but I have to say that it seemed to manage the temperature very well. Good product.

I had a professional do the installation and we could not get the Wi-Fi to work all it wanted to do was download firmware.. After a half hour I gave up and paid the technician for nothing. Ended sending it back.

Simple and Smart Thermostat on Budget

Simple design. I liked the way they lined up all wire connection in single row instead of two rows in other brands. Easy to install wires with provided screw driver. Instructions can be better, but overall it is good. Very easy to operate and connects with app and google home or Alexa very well. Temperature is already adjusted before voice confirmation from google home. If you are DTE consumer then you may qualify for $50 rebate.

The product info does not make clear that if your system does not have a C-wire at the thermostat you must make changes to the wiring at the furnace. In my case this was impossible because my furnace is in the attic. As a result I am going to return this product.

Good thermostat, good Android app, poor Alexa support

I like LUX thermostats because they use swing settings and not cycle rates. Set the swing to +- 1 degree on this one and save some wear and tear on you HVAC equipment. I decided to try this Wi-Fi model to replace a LUX tx1500C that I ran for years.

INSTALL: The install went well for me. I have installed a few thermostats and many Wi-Fi controlled smart home devices over the years, so my experience likely helped. I did have a "C" wire as most modern HVAC systems do, so I didn't have to deal with alternative methods to power the thermostat. The process for connecting the Wi-Fi the first time takes a little patience, but it does work. For those having problems there are a couple of YouTube videos that will walk you through it and may make it more understandable than the written instructions. I am using this on a heat pump with electric auxiliary heat.

OPERATION: The thermostat itself works great and controls the HVAC fine. The Wi-Fi keeps the time set automatically and this model has no batteries to change. I have an Android phone and use that app to set up my schedules. From what I have read the 2020 updated app wasn't great but the version that is now in effect is better. It is working for me anyway. Like all phone apps it takes a little time to learn how to work it, but I found it to be capable. Having remote access is nice. It gives me all the control I had with the old tx1500C with my phone from anywhere. One can also still control this thermostat manually with the front buttons with the exception of actually defining the schedule.

ALEXA/ECHO: This aspect of the thermostat needs work. Yes, you can get the room temperature and set a new temperature and mode with voice commands but that is about it. The first big issue is that when you do set a new temperature with Alexa voice commands it takes the thermostat off its schedule permanently and places it in temperature "hold" mode. Which means the thermostat doesn't resume the schedule at the next time setting. You have to turn the schedule back on manually with the phone app or the faceplate buttons. This is stupid. The second thing is that on video capable Echo devices the touch screen display that should show and let you adjust the temperature shows an error instead. The attached photo shows my Echo Spot screen. My Show 5 does the same thing and no amount of resetting or reinstalling the Alexa skill or device rectifies this problem. The Alexa skill isn't ready for prime time. See the reviews on it if that functionality is important to you.

SUMMARY: This is nice hardware with a capable phone app at a good price point. The weak point is the Alexa integration which will hopefully be improved with future updates to the Alexa skill. I don't have Google Home so I can't speak for how that works.
