Very easy to install, top outlet is the controlled outlet and the bottom is always on. One note when you pair it with a hub. Sometimes when you buy it used or refurbished, it has not been reset to pairing mode. Find the zwave settings on your hub and select general device exclusion. Make sure the switch has mains power (button doesn't have to be on) then start the exclusion process. Keep it running til it says it removed something. Only devices that are looking for a hub and can't find it will respond to a general exclusion, so don't worry about having to reset and reconnect your other zwave devices. I use mine with SmartThings and it works great.

EDIT: Being fair to the product, updated to 4 stars (from 1). I've been using it for about an year now. For good 8 months or more, the behavior was exactly as I wrote originally. HOWEVER, at some point I removed the device and reinstalled and ever since it has not dropped (there were also a couple software updates to my ST hub, hard to pinpoint what caused the changes). It now responds fast and never drops (but feedback is still too slow on ST).

Only one outlet can be controlled. I installed mine yesterday and also noticed it has already dropped from the network. Twice.

This is by far the worst device in my home automation network. I installed this outlet on a wall that sits about 30ft away from the hub. I also tried with a repeater less than 10ft apart. In no cases it works in a satisfactory way.

The device is hard to pair, it is very slow to respond and it drops constantly from HR network or becomes unresponsive.

My other devices are all from Samsung, except for a door sensor. The Samsung devices are great. Super responsive, and really easy to add/remove to the network. The door sensor is much farther away, and it's drilled into the door frame. Yet, it has a quite good response time (by the way, it's battery operated).

On the other hand, this outlet has all power at hands and yet has a very poor transmitting capacity. It takes sometimes 30 seconds for the device to catch a command. And another 30 seconds for it to update the state in the hub.

Can't regret purchasing this enough, especially because I had positive experiences with the brand. All outlets and switches in my house are by Leviton.

Strong enough for 12000 BTU A/C

So I know my situation is not all that common but my one BR condo has electric heat and in wall A/C units. My first venture was the heat, which I'm happy to say a Smartthings hub and Line voltage smart thermostat helped me save well above 50% this winter. So now onto the A/C unit. Of all I looked at this seemed the most adequate for my situation. I wanted to be able to control my units the same as the heat, not easy again but bought these and connected to my 12000 BTU units and presto! Just like when power goes out, the units turn on just fine and connecting with temp sensors now gives me full control. If it hits 75 it turns on and notifies me, off at 72. The 3 degree separation assures me it won't pop on-off on hot days and if you don't know that occasionally will trip the breaker, and defeat the purpose. So if you're wondering I can say that they do work with 12000 BTU air conditioners in wall or window. Basically works like Central Air on a budget.

Avoid, Does not shut off.

I bought several of these and installed them over the weekend. The first application was to control the Xmas lights. The set-up and control was easy but I noticed that the lights did not turn off completely.

I called Leviton Tech support and they said the reason they didn't shut off completely was because the load was to small. They recommend a 40W load minimum to get the outlet to shut off completely.

There is not much that you would plug into an outlet these days that is over 40W. LED light bulbs are much lower than that. A 100W equivalent is 14W. This means you need three of these on the outlet to get it to shut off.

This is a rather poor design. You have to have an inefficient load for the device to work or it doesn't shut off and burn power.

Straight forward and reliable, kind of fat

6 months and 100% reliable. Only con with it is it kind of fat compared to a regular outlet so it took up a lot more space then my 3 gang panel prefers . I got it to fit but my panel was slightly bulgy. Works and setup great with smartthings.

Fatal Flaw Stays On Slightly When Off

I have two of these. I purchased the first one to turn off a lamp and it worked fine for that setup. I was satisfied with it, so I purchased a second to control a small electronic device.

I quickly found the flaw with this product.
The status light on my device which is normally solidly on when the device is on, would blink when this outlet it was plugged into was turned off. I tried it in my other unit to verify it wasn't just a defective unit. The same symptom occurred.

This is a fatal flaw. I notice other reviewers here saw the same thing. It is definitely possible that this can damage sensitive electronics by undervolting them. It is also possible that, depending on your lightbulbs, your lights may stay on or flicker.

There is no excuse for this poor design.

Another note: this outlet cannot be mounted in either vertical orientation. In order for the text to be upright, the hot and neutral need to be above the ground. If your house has outlets oriented the correct way, with the ground up, this will not match.

Great Outlet for Wink/Alexa

I have automated almost everything possible in my home. I have purchased about 10 of these outlets and they work great with a Wink Hub 2. There is one important aspect to point out that I have not seen in any of the reviews recently, and that is that only the top outlet is switched via the Z-wave functions. The bottom outlet is live all of the time. This is actually a helpful function as long as you know it upfront. For example, on several of these outlets I have a lamp plugged into the top outlet so that I can turn it on and off with Alexa, but I have a Sonos speaker plugged into the bottom and it is powered all the time and I do not have to worry about it being off when I need it to be on. I have not experienced a single technical difficulty with any of these outlets. With my set up, they function flawlessly.

this is a great Z wave switch that works with all major home hub manufacturers.

Levitons cross platform compatibility is second to none.

This outlet is easy to install and easy to pair to a hub. Once installed and the power is back on simply hold down the pairing button and put your hub into pairing mode and you’re good to go.

we keep these outlets in each one of the bathrooms so we can schedule a wax burner to make the bathrooms smell nice.

I love the clean look at these outlets there’s no markings and they’re also Decora smooth front face finish looking which we prefer.

highly recommend it to anyone that’s getting into Smart home and wants a perfect Z wave outlet.

Great... but didn't work in my specific situation.

** Did not work with LED Lights ** I still give this four stars because it installed easily, and paired well with my Wink Hub. Leviton Customer support was actually great too.. I ran into a situation where I was trying to use it with LED Lights, which I learned from Leviton, do not have enough current draw to cause the outlet to trigger a full shut off ... the result was the LED's maintained a soft glow in the off position.
