A Subtlety (processional figure)

Based on plastic figurines she found on Amazon, Kara Walker 's 15 processional figures were all originally intended to be sculpted from sugar, like this one. However, their fragility necessitated that 12 be cast in resin instead, which the artist then coated in molasses and sugar.
