This manuscript named Dewan-e-Hafiz was scribed by Abdul Rashid Delmi, a Mughal court calligrapher in Nastaliq Script and in Persian Language belonging to 18th Century AC. Its text box size is 15.4 x 9 cm
Abdual Rashid Dehlmi was an Iranian by birth and moved to the subcontinent during the region of Shah Jahan (r.1628-1658 AC). He was a court calligrapher of Shah Jahan. It is said that he was the calligraphy teacher of Prince Dara Shikoh .
The Divan itself was written by Khwaja Shams-ud-Din Muhammad Hafiz-e- Shiraz (1325-1389 AC). Hafez is one of the greatest Persian poems and his work is regarded as the zenith of Persian poetry .
Nastaliq script is a combination of Naskh and Taliq scripts and was prroduced by Mir Ali Tabrezi. It is fully cursive and very elegant. This script quickly became very popular in Iran, Turkey , Central Asia, Afghanistan and the Indian Sub-continent.
