The developers of La Jolla Park situated the business district on a bluff overlooking the park and sea . The curvilinear Prospect Street, seen here as a dirt path lined with palms, followed the coastline and later became the site of important hotels. Four hotel-cottages were built in 1887 on the south side of Prospect St. between Herschel and Girard; the fifth stood on Girard St.
