Kitchen interior

Marten van Cleve c. 1565

Skokloster Castle
Skoklosters, Sweden

This painting shows an interior view of a larger kitchen with various figures occupied in different tasks. At the center of the composition are two men, the one on the right is about to cut up a rabbit, while the other holds a plate, possibly for assistance. In the left corner of the foreground is a woman stirring a pot, and to the left sits a woman nurcering a child. Behind them is a smaller brawl as one man grabs a woman who is doing the dishes, to the clear annoyment of her fellow dishwashing colleague. In the background, in the upper left corner sits a party of people eating by a table. This painting shows a similarity to the characters in Cake Scene by van Cleve at the Museo di Castelvecchio in Verona .
