Moat 1 was filled around the year 800 and represents the oldest fortification of late Saxon times, the Hammaburg I. The moat enclosed an area about 48 m x 58 m. Above is the ground plan of St. Peter's Church for your orientation; in the center you see the old high route to ford Alster.
