Yellow Tara

Despite the identification offered here, this goddess cannot be identified with certainty. Both hands, the left shown in the gesture of giving (varadamudra) and the right that of argumentation (vitarkamudra), hold the stalk of one of the extremely stylized blue lilies (utpala) on either side of her. Her sitting posture, gestures, and the representations of these blossoms beside her shoulders closely compare to representations of the Buddhist goddess Tara, a yellow form of whom is known. The older pedestal features a vase of plenty (purnaghata) from which two more blue lilies emerge. In the corners are winged and possibly bird -headed composite creatures.
