Applied Art and Design

The showcase of applied art and design features unique items from the Middle Ages to the beginning of the 20th century which are exceptional for their appearance, function and, in particular, craftsmanship. The most valuable treasures on show come from the historical collections of furniture, glassware and ceramics, metalwork andtextile. The installation freely follows the line of development of the individual epochs and styles. The last room contains an intervention called “TheTable Is Set“ which concentrates on the work ofJosef Hoffmann and the Wiener Werkstätte artsand-crafts workshops. The Design.Live! sectionin the lobby juxtaposes the time tested aestheticquality and function of the historical collectionswith the output of contemporary designers.
