This article is for admins who originally set up and purchased their domain from Google (Google Domains).
If you don’t renew your domain registration before it expires, some Google Cloud services, such as Gmail, will stop working. You also risk losing ownership of the domain. Your domain can expire if you don't have the domain set up for automatic renewal in your Google Admin console or if your automatic payment fails.
We can't guarantee that you can renew an expired domain purchased through Google. It depends on whether the domain is still available from your domain host.
Renew an expired domain
For organizations that set up and purchased their domain from Google Domains, renewals are now handled by Squarespace. Squarespace acquired all domain registrations from Google Domains.
To renew:
- Sign in to Squarespace using the same Google Account that you originally used to purchase the domain from Google Domains.
- Follow the renewal process with Squarespace.
- If you can’t sign in to Squarespace or still need help, contact Squarespace support.
- Turn on automatic renewals in the Admin console. For the steps, go to Manage domain registration renewals .
If your renewal is successful, your Domain Registration billing subscription will be marked Active and your Google services will resume. If you turn on automatic renewals, we’ll charge your payment method at the beginning of the following month for the renewal.
If automatic renewal does not work
If we cannot automatically renew your domain, we'll cancel your Domain Registration subscription in your Admin console. You'll still be able to access your billing account from the Billing page.
If your domain is still available, you can try to renew it directly with Squarespace. For the steps, go to Renew an expired domain (earlier on this page).
