You can use a rubric to grade and give feedback. You can grade rubrics from the Student work page or the grading tool.
After you start grading, you can’t edit or delete the assignment's rubric.
You aren't required to attach rubrics to grade assignments.

Grade rubrics from the grading tool
See a rubric while grading
- Click the class Classwork.
- Click the assignment View assignmentthe student’s file.
- In the right column, click Grading.
- To expand or collapse a criterion’s description, click the Down arrowor Up arrow.
Select a rating for each criterion
The rubric score automatically updates as you select rating levels.
- Click the class Classwork.
- Click the assignment View assignmentthe student’s file.
- In the right column, click Grading.
- To assign a rating level for each criterion, choose one:
- Click a rating level for each criterion.
Note: To undo your selection, in the expanded criterion, click Clear. - If you’re using the criterion for scoring, enter a number.
- Click a rating level for each criterion.
Manually change the total grade
You can manually enter a new grade for a student's assignment without changing your level selections.
- Click the class Classwork.
- Click the assignment View assignmentthe student’s file.
- In the right column, click Grading.
- Under Grade, manually enter a grade for the student's assignment.

See a rubric while grading
- Click the class Classworkthe assignment.
- Click View assignment.
- On the Student workpage, at the left, click a student’s name.
- Choose an option:
- To expand or collapse all criteria, at the right, click Expand criteriaor Collapse criteria.
- To expand or collapse individual criteria, next to a criterion, click Expandor Collapse.
Select a rating for each criterion
You can select rating levels with criteria expanded or collapsed. Classroom automatically saves your selections and calculates a total grade.

- Click the class Classworkthe assignment.
- Click View assignment.
- On the Student workpage, at the left, click a student’s name.
- To select a rating level, choose an option:
- Under a criterion, click a rating level.
- Next to a criterion’s points, enter the student’s points.
Classroom selects the rating level for the points you enter.
- (Optional) To undo your selection, in the expanded criterion, click Clear.
Manually change the total grade
You can manually enter a new grade for a student's assignment without changing your level selections.
- Click the class Classworkthe assignment.
- Click View assignment.
- On the Student workpage, click the student's grade you want to change.
- Enter a new grade for the student.
The grade saves automatically. - (Optional) To return the student’s new grade, next to the grade, click More Return.
