After plan activation, you can request to switch your Google Fi plan in the Google Fi appor at fi.google.com
. Before you make changes, compare plan details like data allowances, hotspot limits, and international features. Most plan changes take effect at the start of your next billing cycle.
Switch your plan
- Sign in to your account on the Google Fi app
or at fi.google.com .
- Tap Manage plan.
- Under "Actions," tap Switch plan.
- Follow the instructions.
You can choose to switch plans once a month. After you change plans, at the top of your account, you and any group members get a notification. The notification says when the new plan starts.
If you change from Unlimited Premium to Flexible, Unlimited Standard, or Unlimited Essentials you can lose your Google One benefits after 7 days.
To keep your Google One benefits:
- Set up payment for Google One.
- After you switch your Google Fi plan, in the pop-up notification, click the link.
Cancel a scheduled switch
Important:You can schedule a plan switch for the start of your next billing cycle. If you do so, you can cancel the switch and stay on your current plan type any time before the start of your next billing cycle.
- Sign in to your account on the Google Fi app
or at fi.google.com .
- Tap Manage plan.
- At the top of the "Account" section, find a notification of your scheduled plan switch.
- Tap Cancel switch.
Manage your group plan
When you’re in a group plan, specific rules apply for member management and plan changes.
- Only the group owner can make changes:They can switch the plan type for the entire group. They can also add or remove members.
- All members share the same plan:Members of the group must be on the same plan, like all are on Unlimited Standard. You can’t mix plans within a single group.
- If the group owner switches the plan, all members are moved to the new plan.
- Members who want a different plan:If a member wants a different plan, they must first leave the group plan. After they leave, they can switch to their preferred plan as an individual.
- Group ownership can’t be transferred:To change the group owner, the current group needs to disband. All members need to leave, and the new owner can then create a new group plan and invite others to join.
To add a member :
- Open the Google Fi app or go to fi.google.com .
- Go to Manage plan.
- Select Add a member.
- To send an invitation, enter the person's email address.
Understand your bill after a plan change
Your first bill after you switch plans might be higher than usual. This is because it includes charges from your previous postpaid plan and your new prepaid plan.
If you switch from the Flexible plan to an Unlimited plan, your bill includes:
- The charge for data you used on the Flexible plan during the last cycle.
- The charge for the next month of service on your new Unlimited plan.
Your bill can also include charges for other services from the previous billing cycle:
- International calls:Unlimited plans typically don’t include calls to other countries. To avoid extra charges, before you make calls, check Google Fi international rates. Wi-Fi calling can also help avoid charges.
- Full-speed data:If you reach your high-speed limit, you get charges to restore full-speed data.
- Prorated costs:You get prorated costs for new members who join in the middle of a cycle.
For example:
You just switched from the Flexible plan to an individual Unlimited Standard plan. In your last month, you used $20 USD of data on your Flexible plan. Your next bill includes:
- $20 USD for data on your Flexible plan, which you postpay.
- $50 USD for your Unlimited Standard plan, which you prepay.
To find your current billing cycle:
- Sign in to your account on the Google Fi app
or at fi.google.com .
- At the top of your screen, find the notification "Cycle ends X days."
Manage bill plans in Pixel Pass
If you subscribe to Pixel Pass, you can switch between billing plans. Your first bill can be higher than usual since it can include prepaid and postpaid charges. To make your billing simple, you can schedule a plan switch.
You can find the AI billing summary in the Home tab of the Google Fi app or website. This feature:
- Helps you quickly understand why your bill is higher or lower.
- Explains changes in your current bill compared to the previous month.
- Is only available for 10 days after the bill is generated.
Tip:Do not solely rely on the AI billing summary because this feature can give incorrect information. For complete and accurate details, refer to your detailed billing statement.
