Project Overview
Green Seal is developing an environmental leadership standard for trash bags and can liners (GS-60) that use less virgin plastic while maintaining top performance. The draft standard recognizes environmental leadership in trash bags and can liners based on plastic efficiency: reducing virgin plastic use to the minimum amount required to maintain top performance for the product’s gallon size. The standard would ensure certified products provide uncompromising performance while reducing the use of virgin plastic and associated carbon emissions. A Working Group of Trusted Advisors
Green Seal uses stakeholder feedback to inform our decisions on final standard criteria. This includes using Advisory Groups composed of market and technical experts from three interest categories: producers, users, and general interest. During the standard development process, Green Seal strives for balanced participation from all interest categories. To learn more, see our Standards Development Manual .
Green Seal’s Working Group for Trash Bags and Can Liners are volunteers from leading companies, nonprofit organizations, and independent subject matter experts, including plastics manufacturers, resin suppliers, experts in solid waste and recycling, and green procurement professionals. The participation and input of these stakeholders is critical to achieving a strong outcome: a meaningful, feasible environmental leadership standard. Working Group members serve as technical and market advisors throughout the standard development process, and program implementation and evolution.
