Christopher Kane Pre-Fall 2013

The sanguine flowers that Raf Simons cultivated for spring at Dior have already withered and turned to haunting violescent shades. That is, in Christopher Kane’s pre-fall collection, his first. Citing the horror classics of UK-based Hammer films, the Scottish designer bathed a range of silhouettes in dark blooms, from floor-length Victorian-style dresses to modern separates and jaunty cocktail fare.

The first look, a blue velvet biker jacket with zippers galore, set the collection’s slightly sinister tone, while the enlarged face of Dracula splashed across a T-shirt kept it just-camp-enough. Throughout, black-and-white jaguar prints prowled among the nefarious florals and snug leather pieces that recalled Kane’s time at Versus.
