Exotic Menagerie: J.W. Anderson Fall 2016
Like some exotic menagerie, Jonathan Anderson continued his exploration and gathering of the unknown for fall, producing exquisite pile-ups of shape, texture, and color. He sent out piece after puzzling piece: meandering leather ruffles; zippered collars resembling Japanese kabuto; and bright undulating concoctions, as if taken from a coral reef. And so on.
In the show notes, the London designer alluded to his stubborn differentness with a quote from 50s-era interior decorator David Nightingale Hicks: “The excitement of today is the freedom of the individual to make his own choice.” Hicks was famed for his mix of bold colors and contrasting patterns with a touch of the aristocratic. It seems Anderson is chasing a similar eccentricity.
