Finally, a New Designer at Dior

Reuters is reporting that Christian Dior will announce its new creative director after its couture show in July, and that that person will be Maria Grazia Chiuri, currently half of Valentino’s design duo.

If the report comes to pass, Chiuri will be the first woman CD in the company’s history, succeeding Raf Simons, who left the position suddenly late last year, and John Galliano before him.

Stylistically, the decision makes sense, at least for those wishing to return to Dior’s romantic roots. Along with Pier Paolo Piccioli, Chiuri has earned plaudits and record sales at Valentino with dramatic gowns and an eye for theater.

Earlier this week, the parent company of Valentino, Mayhoola, acquired Balmain, another major French house.
