Otherworldly at Rick Owens

Beams of light fell into sharp round white spots all over the runway, like giant polka dots or a constellation of bright stars. This lighting punctuated the collection, with the models dipping in and out of the spotlights, so to speak, while the music insisted, “I saw the moonlight on you, I didn’t want to wake you up.”

Carrying over from the men’s collection in January was the jewel-tone color palette, the giant pockets that looked like mini backpacks patched onto coating, and the glam-rock stacked heels — though this time even higher — that brought to mind Kiss or David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust.

Particularly arresting were the prosthetics and body modifying make-up that appeared sporadically on the models’ faces, provided by Salvia, who, according to a recent piece in Vogue is “a new age Instagram drag star.” She is one of the most original beauty Instagrammers out there, who uses her body, along with prosthetics and Photoshop, to execute her unique vision. She was the perfect partner for Owens’ collection, taking his already extraordinary aesthetic to new levels.

It is easy to see why Owens commands an adoring audience, given his exquisite level of craftsmanship, focused impeccable tailoring, and an unfiltered view of raw beauty.
