Under most circumstances we should be able to pull fresh oysters out of the water for our tour groups to consume back at Humboldt Bay Provisions.
We strive to get you up close and have a true oyster experience. Wind in your hair and possibly mud in you eye. So use caution at all times while on the tour and watch out for potential hazards.
Humboldt Bay Provisions was established in 2012 as a local tasting room and oyster bar to highlight for travellers the bounty of Humboldt County and surrounding areas.
Most of the heavy lifting occurs at low tide. The majority of oyster culture area on Humboldt Bay is only exposed at low tide. A smaller percentage is floating operations on the surface in certain areas.
The tour begins at 11 AM. Up to 6 persons can embark on the boat tour portion. We meet at 205 G St. Humboldt Bay Provisions in Old Town, Eureka. You may use the restroom at Provisions and we can do the required paper work before we walk to the dock to get on the boat (2 short blocks). This tour is rain or shine and if needed rain ponchos will be provided. We will motor boat around Humboldt Bay looking and learning about various aspects of oyster aquaculture methods and operations on the bay. Depending on the tide more or less of the bay bottom will be exposed for investigation and explanation. Special equipment and vessels will be looked at and discussed at length, At the conclusion of the tour each participant will enjoy 12 oysters prepared for them at Humboldt Bay Provisions.
